MARCIA ALBERT'S AMARYLLIS ADVENTURE

I received two of these amaryllis from a friend around the middle of December - the company she ordered them from put her order in twice! The main thing to do is not over water them which is what I did. Most of the leaves never came up because of that. She sends them to us every year and this is the first year that I've over watered. These come already planted in the pots so all you have to do is water them. I find it hard to know how much is enough. They take a couple of weeks to bloom when taken care of adequately. If you buy the bulbs at a place like Home Depot you have to plant them yourself, but they include a soil disc and the pot. They have good directions which say to plant the bulb with the soil half way up. I'm actually amazed that these have done anything at all. If you'll notice in the picture the one to the left looks scarred, but one of the stems has already bloomed and been cut off.   This is great information for those who would like to explore growing Amaryllis.  If you have a story, tip, photos of your plants/gardens or gardening information, that you would like to share, please send to RCGCWEB@gmail.com.
